The Ice Cube at V2O Cocktail Bar Pattaya is one of the cooler venues on Walking Street – literally. While most of the place is pretty well air-conditioned, the highlight is the titular Ice Cube, which is essentially a walk-in freezer chilled to -11°C. Fortunately, there’s an excellent selection of tasty flavoured vodka shots available to keep you warm on the inside, as well as jackets, hats and gloves for your outsides.
Located at the corner of Soi 15 on Walking Street, opposite King Seafood, the bar is virtually impossible to miss. A brightly-lit blue sign shines over a window into the cold room, inside which you can generally find some shivering partiers and a rather cheerful polar bear waving to passers-by. On a hot and stuffy night, it is certainly an invitation worth considering.
The main part of the venue is the V2O Cocktail Bar, which has an igloo-like theme and a good list of beverages. Alongside classic cocktails like margaritas, Mai Tais and martinis (all 240 baht) are unusual choices like mango mojitos (260 baht) and several interestingly-named shots such as the monkey brain, tampon string and B69 (all 180 baht). You can also get local beers for 110 baht and imported cider for 170 baht. The mixologists certainly know their stuff and the cocktails are as remarkable for their taste as for their names.

When you’re ready to face The Ice Cube at V20 Cocktail Bar Pattaya, you’ll need to ask one of the friendly staff members to lower the coat rack, which descends from its usual place by the chandelier like some gadget from Thunderbirds or an early James Bond film. You are welcome to try going in without, but even with the jacket and a shot or two, we could barely manage to remain for a few minutes before the cold got to be too much. With quite a small space available and nowhere to sit, it is really only meant as a short experience and not as an endurance test.
The choice of shots at the bar made of ice (directly under two high-powered chiller units) perfectly suit the fun environment of The Ice Cube. The vodka flavours available (for 165 baht per shot) include strawberry, pineapple, lychee, coconut, coffee, chilli and chocolate, the last of which is particularly nice for those with a sweet tooth. Other spirits available include honey whiskey, cocoa tequila, Sambuca and sake, among others.
While The Ice Cube at V20 Cocktail Bar Pattaya is a bit of a novelty and is a nice shock to the system if you’re starting to flag during your night of partying in Pattaya, the main bar itself is a great, friendly place to relax and enjoy some great drinks and a good selection of mostly hip-hop music. It manages to be a significant step above the typical Walking Street beer bar without becoming pretentious, being very welcoming without needing bar girls crooning to the passing “handsome men”.
