Jomtien Beach Nightlife
What to Do at Night in Jomtien Beach
With the exception of some open-front beer bars and a small gay scene, nights in Jomtien are mostly wholesome and family-orientated. Those that don’t head to Pattaya Beach for a night of partying choose to relax in one of Jomtien’s many bars and restaurants, head to a cultural show like Alankarn, or just chill out around their hotel.Read More

Bawdy Beer Bars
There are a few sleazy go-go bars and a multitude of beer bars on Thep Phraya Road (the road connecting Pattaya and Jomtien). The densest concentration can be found in a small shophouse development called the Jomtien Complex. More beer bars still are scattered along the northern end of the beach front parade and up many of the soi's adjoining it.
These are places to befriend a bar girl, swig beers, swap life stories, get whipped at pool and Connect 4. The bar Country Road 3 (Thap Phraya Road) is a well-known favourite. Of course, if you get along with your host, you can always make the leap to debauched pursuits, but most girls here and elsewhere are happy to converse without harassing you. Compared to up the road in Pattaya Beach, though, these places are as relaxed as Walking Street's establishments are wild.
Beerfest takes an understandable pride in their home-brewed beverages, to the extent that they consider their chief cuisine to be beer. There is a menu of mostly European food dishes also available, but it is their selection of German “live” beers which makes this such a popular pub. The microbrewery churns out a lager beer, amber beer, dark beer and a very moreish wheat beer, all created with the finest quality imported ingredients, including Australian malt, Czech hops and German yeast. Between the food, the beer and decor, the atmosphere is like that of a German beer hall during a perpetual Oktoberfest.

Pattaya generally is famous for its cabaret shows. Commonly known as “ladyboy shows” because all of the glamourous and extremely talented performers, despite looking like strikingly beautiful women, are or were once men. Jomtien has two such shows: The Colosseum Show on Thepprasit Road and Alagkarn Show on Sukhumvit Road. Colesseum Ladyboy Cabaret Show is housed in a recreation of a Roman amphitheatre, which is ostentatious and grand – a lot like the show itself.
Far from the freak show the common name suggests, the performances feature fantastic song and dance acts and are highly entertaining for the whole family. Read More...
Country Road III
Far from being your typical beer bar – and despite appearances – the staff at Country Road III have a no-hassle, friendly attitude which makes it an extremely popular watering hole. With low-cost beer, many pool tables and a few big television screens showing the sport, it has a relaxed vibe which a good selection of classic rock music helps to maintain. Being directly over the road from Jomtien’s only go-go bar, it is slightly on the seedy side, but not to the point of making it uncomfortable. It is a rare gem amongst bars of its type, which is why it is one of the longest lasting and most popular.

An assortment of tapas is available to enjoy, as is a selection of easy-listening music.

One of very few American-style bars in the Pattaya area, Fraser’s takes a pragmatic approach to being a sports bar. It has an impressive number of television screens, including one each for the booths which line one wall, ensuring that you can always see the sporting action. It has a bar, with a collection of draft and bottled beers, daily beer specials and all day two-for-one cocktail deals. That’s basically all you need. Fraser’s also provides a mostly western menu of snacks and meals served throughout the day and a friendly atmosphere.

Gay, Glitz and Glam
The gay contingent should head for Jomtien Complex (Thep Phraya Road), wherein lies some gay bars and a well-known transvestite show called Star-Treff Travestie. Dongtan Beach has a few "gay friendly" beer bars and is also well-known as a gay 'cruising' area.
For anybody craving glitz and glam there's also Alangkarn, a Las Vegas-type show that's one of Pattaya's most extravagant attractions. Here a multi-coloured cultural show exploring Thailand's history unfurls, with lasers, surround sound, special effects, elephants and over 150 performers creating quite a spectacle. Shows begin every evening at 20:45, and there are optional dinners available.
IBIZA Wine & Lounge Bar
With the slower-paced nightlife in Jomtien, the owners of IBIZA Wine & Lounge Bar very intelligently designed their club to suit a more sophisticated clubber – those at the higher end of the 18 to 35 spectrum which the Mediterranean island of the same name attracts. More lounge bar than actual club, it serves up fine wines, cocktails and champagne alongside stone oven-baked pizzas and Chill, Deep and Progressive tunes from resident and guest DJs. The dimly-lit interior creates an exclusive, dignified atmosphere which is nonetheless very reminiscent of its namesake.

Jomtien's Refined Joys
Alternatively, you can go relatively refined. Try a delicious seafood supper from a seafront table lit by oil lamp whilst reclining on the beach, or do the same at one of many Beach Road seafood shacks.
Patronise one of the many expatriat-run restaurant-cum-bars that bring their owner's native cuisine, booze and blaring music (Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Holland or Britain) to this stretch of shoreline. Or try one of the restaurants listed in our Jomtien Dining section.
For the depraved, often surreal nightlife that's talked about the world over, make the short hop over to Pattaya Beach Nightlife.
Planet Earth Beach Club
Despite only being open during the tourist season, the parties at Planet Earth Beach Club are legendary. Starting in the late morning, it remains lively well into the night, attracting a fun-loving crowd of young Thais and tourists, including the high-society locals. The music, the drinks and the venue successfully recreates the feel of an Ibiza beach party. There’s live performances from great resident and international guest DJs, authentic Italian ice cream, great drinks deals, huge sun loungers, designer swimwear on sale, a swimming pool, a foam machine, muscle-bound guys and bikini-clad girls – what more could you ask for?
