A-One The Royal Cruise Hotel Review

Step on board for a one-of-a-kind holiday experience at A-One The Royal Cruise Hotel, the beachfront ship-themed accommodation anchored along North Pattaya Beach. More than just a ship-shaped hotel, this onshore ‘Titanic’ is equipped with a variety of great facilities including dining outlets, karaoke lounge, fitness centre, conference rooms, massage and spa facilities. With its two buildings shaped like a pair of ships, the hotel is a welcome novelty to the ordinary-looking hotels in the North Pattaya area.

The hotel can be accessed through Pattaya Soi 2, where the roomy lobby is located. The interior boasts a large reception area and a board listing name of the guests who are checking in each day – a seemingly insignificant but thoughtful gesture which make guests feel immensely welcome the moment they walk inside. A refreshing face cloth and welcome drink are given prior to check-in (which, by the way, is quick with the help of the hotel’s efficient staff).

A refreshing face cloth and welcome drink are given prior to check-in (which, by the way, is quick with the help of the hotel’s efficient staff).

Choice of Comfy ‘Cabins’

In keeping with the entire nautical theme, the hotel’s rooms are suitably dubbed ‘cabins’ and available in three different types, Superior (32 square metres), Deluxe (40 square metres) and Suite (48 up to 182.10 square metres). The Main Wing has 201 cabins and the New Wing has 264 cabins – all fitted with standard in-room amenities including Wi-Fi Internet access, satellite TV and private terraces. Gone are the days of swiping key card, the hotel keeps abreast of the latest technology by using a proximity key card, a very swift and convenient way to get in and out of the room.

Laced with ample navy blue furnishings plus a treasure chest coffee table, the cabins exude a uniquely breezy atmosphere not commonly found in most hotel rooms. If all this makes you want to go for a dip in the ocean, you can do so whenever your heart desires – thanks to the reassuring fact that the actual sea is just across the road.

All facilities on deck

In addition to comfortable cabins, this hotel also comes with a shipload of facilities. The most noticeable are the two outdoor swimming pools in front of the hotel, which creates an illusion of the ship-shaped buildings floating on water, especially at night. Although there are plenty of small eateries surrounding the area, guests don’t need to leave the hotel as it has several dining outlets. Start your day with scrumptious buffet breakfast at Maritime Restaurant (Royal Wing), then rendezvous with friends or business partners at Piano Lounge (Main Wing) overlooking the atrium cascade or at the 24-hour Ocean View Coffee Shop & Internet Café (Mezzanine Floor, Main Wing) where oven-fresh pastries, cake and biscuits are on offer. Delicious lunch is available at The Harbour Chinese Restaurant (New Wing) which serves up an extensive choice of dishes cooked in classical Chinese style.

Nothing beats an afternoon of basking in the sun while enjoying light snacks and cool drinks from Blue Wave Poolside Bar (Main Wing). Alternatively, unwind with friends and family at Compass Karaoke which features an extensive collection of international songs. Every room features a 42” Plasma TV equipped with state-of-the-art sound system. For those looking for an ultimate pampering, head to Avarin Cruise Spa for a wide variety of massages and treatments by certified therapists. The well-equipped Fitness One also offers yoga and aerobics classes. And if all those activities left you famished, feed your hunger at the poolside international and seafood dinner buffets accompanied by live music and service-minded staff aptly clad in sailor outfits. Got some energy left, shred some sweat at free salsa classes on The Boat Music Place’s dance floor, boasting the one and only Latin night in Pattaya.

The maritime merriment

Often locally referred to as ‘‘that Titanic hotel”, A-One The Royal Cruise has proved to be more than just a novelty attraction. It is, in fact, everything a hotel in a beach resort like Pattaya should be: accessible location – with a myriad of shops, restaurants, pubs, bars and convenience stores only a few minutes away – great value for money, whimsical theme, light-hearted decoration, great hospitality and a wide choice of eating and entertainment options including international and seafood buffet, karaoke and dance classes. All of these are undoubtedly perfect ingredients for an ideal place to stay during a vacation for both couples and families (kids will surely go bonkers over the sea vessel-themed décor).
