Touche Hombre Bangkok is a taqueria and cocktail bar playing old-skool hip hop, much like the original branch in Melbourne, Australia. The food is created by the accomplished team from Lady Brett, but the menu stays largely true to the Aussie original. Highlights include the tacos, coming with flour or corn tortillas, with fillings like pork belly with anchiote chilli, diced pineapple and onion as well as a mouth tingling chicken thigh with achiote and habanero chillies, smooth queso fresco cheese and a sharp salsa. Tacos range in cost from 225 baht to 350 baht for two.

Everything is made in-house to authentic Mexican recipes which makes a huge difference when compared to many of the bland Tex-Mex pretenders currently found in Bangkok. The bulk of chilies, spices and cheeses used in the kitchen are imported from Mexico, although the modernist plating is something unique for Mexican cuisine. To appeal to Thai sensibilities, dishes such as soft shell crab have been added, beautifully crunchy legs and claws piled high off the plate and served in a pomelo salad with crema de Mexicana and a powerful chilli kick (380 baht).
The broken burrata cheese mixed, while not a typical Mexican cheese, fits nicely with the tomatillo salsa, chives and cilantro for a clean tasting dish that acts as a nice counterbalance to so many spicy, fiery dishes on the menu.
From behind the bar, the level of mescal and tquilla cocktails are a cut above anything else in the city too, with classic cocktails spruced up and given the Latin touch, especially in the El Paco, a Singapore Sling-esque creation raspberry liquor, Campari and tequila delivering a fruity and layered drink, or Chingon, which is a blend of rum, tequila and almond. The head barman from UNCLE is tending to the cocktails currently so you’re in good hands.
The second floor of Touche Hombre Bangkok is a really special space, with a glitter ball and huge dragon mural giving the space a bar-restaurant-club crossover appeal. Other funky touches give Touche Hombre a cool and laidback vibe, such as the vintage pinball machine and the gaudy neon installation of Siamese kittens drinking beneath a flashing TACOS sign.
You can find this funky restaurant and bar in 72 Courtyard, one of the hottest developments in Bangkok’s trendiest district of Thonglor in many years.
