The Roof @ 38 at Mode Sathorn Hotel

A new Rooftop on Sathorn Road

The Roof @38th Bar at Mode Sathorn Hotel is, you guessed it, a new rooftop bar in Bangkok! Rooftops keep on popping up faster than you can climb them and we are not going to complain about it. On the 38th floor of this new fashionable hotel, easily identifiable by its mauve color, you are way above the traffic jams and the little annoyances of big city life. The rooftop is entirely open-sky so not really an option on rainy days but the feeling of being high up in the air is real and impressive. You can walk around the entire circumference of the tower and discover a superb 360 view of this part of Bangkok.

On the south side, the most popular one as it faces the sunset, you can sit in very comfortable sofas with a glass of wine or a fancy cocktail, stare at famous Sky Bar standing nearby and watch how the crowds are squeezing themselves without seats on the very edge of Lebua Tower.

The northern side on the Roof @38th, stands high above the long and perfectly straight Sathorn avenue, lined with shiny glass towers and stretching all the way to Lumpini park. On that side of The Roof @38th a local or International DJ plays music according to the moment and mood. On the day we visited there was no special event so the music was just right, down tempo lounge tracks with a good vibe and most important not too loud for conversation. Check their page for special events and parties as Mode Sathorn Hotel is advertising itself as 'Bangkok's first party hotel'.

The place serves Mexican, Moroccan and French snacks and creative dumpling and fusion Sushi. We ordered few tapas and a couple of cocktails to enjoy as we watched the sun go down on the horizon beyond the river. The lamb skewers (Marinated leg of lamb with thyme, olive oil and morocco spices) were surprising delicious, we ordered another round and called it dinner.

On the other hand the cocktails (between 300 to 400 baht plus 10% tax) were too sweet for our taste, maybe because the place is still very new. So if you don't like your drinks on the sweet side, we recommend to go for wine or beer.

The roof @38th Bar at Mode Sathorn hotel is not yet a high profile rooftop of Bangkok but parties with well known international DJs might just change this. In the meatime it does offer a good 360 view with cool and comfortable seating, and a great relaxing atmosphere… we will definitely go back.
