The Roof Restaurant and bar at Siam@Siam Hotel
Rooftop Bar in Siam Bangkok
The Roof Restaurant at Siam@Siam Hotel has impressive views over the old town towards the river, and it is very easy to get to, only a two-minute walk from the BTS skytrain station at National Stadium. Set over two floors the restaurant offers European dishes, cocktails and wines. It’s open every evening from 18:00 until 23:00, perfect for catching the sunset and enjoying the ribbons of red light winding along the city’s ring road. What makes The Roof different from the other rooftop bars in Bangkok is the more casual feel to it – there’s no strict dress code, it’s easy to get a seat and dinner isn’t rushed. The unusual design is funky and modern, in-line with the hotel’s arty theme and there’s also a bar section for those who want to visit for a sundowner only.
The restaurant and bar are situated on the 25th floor of the hotel and offers a more unusual view of the city. To the west is the old city, one of the few areas in Bangkok where developers aren’t allowed to build. From The Roof restaurant you can see the bridges across the Chao Phraya River and the glowing spire of the Golden Mount. The hotel sits directly in front of the old National Stadium and at sunset you will see locals huffing and puffing as they run round the sports track. The view is 360 degrees, and some people may prefer the skyscrapers and shopping centres of Siam. This rooftop also has the benefit of being under most visitors’ radars meaning you can get a table right next to the edge, fantastic for sunset pictures and panoramas.
The friendly team are quick to show you to your seat and bring a generous portion of bread and butter to enjoy whilst browsing the menu. We start with the Blue Brittany poached lobster Caesar salad with bacon, parmesan and garlic croutons, which is easily the highlight of the night thanks to the fresh half lobster and crispy rashers. The main course of roasted pork filet mignon on a bed of potato mash is a simple, hearty dish that’s sure to satisfy those with an appetite. The Roof also serves more adventurous fare for those who want something a little different. The house speciality of black squid ink ravioli stuffed with crab and Brie cheese in saffron white wine sauce look like minute Mexican sombreros, but inside each neat package is a heady mix of flavours.
