Sushi Ichizu Bangkok is a refined sushi restaurant serving a set menu of Japanese delicacies in a zen-like dining room. A maximum of sixteen diners sit around the chef’s table and are treated to an ‘omakase’ set (meaning chef’s special selection) which spans many courses. The sushi chef is Riku Toda, who learnt his craft in Michelin-starred restaurants in his native Japan before taking the helm at this authentic high-end sushi restaurant on Petchaburi Road, close to the top end of Phrom Phong and Thonglor. It’s walking distance from Petchaburi MRT underground.
As with all sushi, the ingredients are all important. When dining at Sushi Ichizu Bangkok, the evening’s ingredients are displayed proudly before being prepared, be it soft, sea eel (anago), blue fin tuna belly (otoro), creamy sea urchin (uni) or the infamous puffer fish (fugu). All ingredients have been selected from Japan and all have their stamp of authenticity, which the restaurant is proud to display.

Highlights of dining at Sushi Ichizu Bangkok
The omakase set starts off with some hot and cold appetisers, displaying the characteristics of Japanese cuisine, focusing on the wonderful variety of seafood from the seas around Japan. Highlights include black abalone steamed in sake, grilled Japanese hairy crab which is mixed with roe for a delightfully intense flavour, and a several courses of tuna sushi, cut from different sections of the fish – all of which are displayed to the diner prior to the chef working his magic. After two hours of sampling exquisite sushi, some sweet treats end the dining experience.
The aesthetic is all part of the dining experience. Twinkling lullabies create a hushed atmosphere, and the level of care and consideration to guests at sushi ichizu is something very special – unsurpassed in Bangkok, in our opinion. Each course is served on specially selected plates, and the chefs and serving staff are fully aware of each diner.
That being said, everyone can take pictures for their social media accounts if they wish, without feeling out of place. After all, this is a very special dining experience, costing between 6,000 and 8,000 baht. There’s a choice of hot or cold green tea to accompany the meal. There are two separate seatings per night, at 17:30 and 20:30. It is imperative to book ahead.
