The monthly pool party at the glamourous five-star Sofitel So Hotel is widely regarded as the best of its kind in Bangkok. Plenty of bikini-clad lovelies and guys fresh from a workout in the gym ensure that So Pool Party is a place to see, as well as be seen. Deep house is the music of choice around the main poolside area, and hip-hop beats rock the garden; 400 baht gets you entry to both areas plus one free drink.
Running for eight hours, the non-stop party action starts at 13:00 and gets busy almost instantly. If you want to claim one of the best poolside tables then aim to get there around opening (for these tables you’ll also be required to buy a top-shelf bottle of liquor: a bottle of vodka starts from 2,400 baht with six mixers and ice).

There is a fun, carnival-like atmosphere at So Pool Party at Sofitel So Hotel and there are as many guests who come to party on dry land as there are those who strip off and laze in the stunning infinity edge pool. Of course, the one thing Sofitel So has over every other hotel is the stunning 10th floor view of the Bangkok city skyline with the green expanse of Lumpini Park below.
It draws comparisons with New York’s central park, but in our opinion, it’s surpasses it. For those who get a little peckish, there is a kitchen in the garden area serving hearty burgers, hotdogs and other simple snacks to keep those energy levels peaking.
Around sunset, most people converge on the makeshift dance floor around the pool as neon lights are switched on (even in the pool) to create a real club-like environment. The pool at Sofitel So Hotel even has underwater speakers so you can listen to the pumping bass as you swim.
The pool party at Sofitel So Hotel is a monthly event, taking place on the last Saturday of every month (weather permitting). The hotel is located at the beginning of Sathorn Road. If you’re taking public transport, take the BTS Skytrain to Sala Daeng or the MRT Underground to Lumpini. It is a short, well-signposted walk to Sathorn.
