  • Savoey Thai Restaurant Bangkok

Famous Thai Brand Serving Classic Thai Food

Savoey Restaurant Bangkok serves excellent Thai food, with a menu that collects all the best dishes from every region of the country. However, the standout items on the menu at Savoey Bangkok must be the fresh seafood. In particular, yellow curry crab (patpong gali boo), deep fried seabass (bla thort), and fresh oysters (hoi nang rom) are all amazingly fresh and cooked with mild seasoning that won’t have you reaching for the ice water. You can comfortably eat here for less than 500 baht per person, which is excellent value for money considering the quality of the food.

  • Savoey Restaurant on the Riverside

There are actually eight Savoey restaurants in total, although our favourite one must be the flagship riverside restaurant located at the Maharaj Lifestyle Mall close to Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. The view from the second floor terrace overlooking the Chao Phraya River is memorable, as you can watch the passenger ferries and cruise ships sailing past Wat Mahathat Pier directly below the restaurant.

If you prefer air conditioning there are plenty of seats inside, although we love the terrace with riverside views. Definitely consider the seafood options here, but there are plenty of dishes on the lengthy menu, including deep fried chicken which is crispy on the outside and succulent within, very similar to Japanese style karage chicken. For something more traditional, consider a Thai soup, such as a spicy and sour tom yum kung, which is served in a stainless soup bowl with a heater underneath so every serving is steaming hot.

    Savoey Restaurant Mercury Ville

Savoey Restaurant Mercury Ville is very popular for lunch with the dining room filling up soon after midday with locals and foreigners – always a good sign! The menu is identical to the riverside venue but this is a more convenient location for office workers from Ploenchit and hungry shoppers around Siam.

We are sceptical about restaurants which, after initial success decide to expand, opening new venues all across town. We have known this to succeed, but more often we’ve seen them fail. No such fear with Savoey though because we have actually eaten in several of their branches and they all measure up to the same high standards.

The food is very well prepared, the variety included on the menu means there’s something for everyone and the courteous staff speak excellent English, but it’s somewhere you can turn up in shorts and T-shirt and not feel out of place. For these reasons we feel that Savoey is a restaurant brand that fits certain situations better than any other: if you’ve been shopping in Siam and want something tasty but not too formal (Mercury Tower branch, connected to Chit Lom BTS Station), or if you’ve had a day of cultural exploration in the Old City and want a meal on the riverside (Tha Maharaj Pier branch).
