Cruising along the Chao Phraya River is almost compulsory for those who want to enjoy a relaxing dinner with a scenic view of Bangkok’s well-preserved attractions. River Star Princess Dinner Cruise allows guests to enjoy a two-hour long cruise and buffet experience as they sail along the tranquil Chao Phraya River, witnessing iconic palaces and jewelled temples lit up on the banks on either side.
Starting from River City Shopping Complex next to Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, guests are asked to check in at 19:00. After checking in there are many shops to explore in River City and a row of modern bars and restaurants lining the promenade if you would like to soak up the atmosphere and see the boats coming and going.

We board the vessel at 19:30 and are escorted to our table to enjoy a glass of fruit cocktail as a welcome drink. As we get comfortable and browse through the drinks menu, a live band fronted by a female singer welcomes us onboard in English while her band mate provides Thai translations for the locals.
At the same time, the impressive buffet is laid out in elegant silver containers which are opened as guests arrive, displaying Thai, Western and Oriental cuisine displayed on a stretch of spaced out central tables (to overcome the hassle of a long line) including an assortment of desserts and freshly cut fruits.
Piping hot and full of flavour, some of our favourite dishes from the buffet include fried noodles with shrimp, mushroom soup with garlic bread, stir-fried beef with black pepper, fried fish with orange sauce, Thai spicy chicken, assorted sushi, as well as the ever popular dessert mango sticky rice.
River Star Princess Dinner Cruise make choosing your favourite dishes easy by separating the Thai and Western food and this also helps keep queuing to a minimum. Guests are free to eat as many courses as they like with freshly cooked replacements arriving frequently.
In addition to the delectable buffet, the cruise also features Thai classical dance performances: the first features two girls dressed in lavish costumes, who entertained guests with their choreography complemented with soothing traditional music and the second is a Ramakien epic, where one dancer donning traditional Khon mask gets up close to a few oblivious guests, drawing laughter from the rest of the entertained crowd.
After the performances, the guests sit back and enjoy the second set of the band’s live performances, mainly comprised of English pop and easy-listening rock covers as well as song requests by guests on the River Star Princess. The band’s energetic singer pauses in between songs and gives brief descriptions as we pass by Bangkok’s beautifully illuminated structures like The Grand Palace, Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), and the modern Rama 9 suspension bridge. As the evening goes by on the open top boat the breeze may feel a tad chilly to some so we advise guests to bring a light jacket or shawl.
After two hours of delicious food, entertaining cultural shows and live music, the boat cruises back to River City Pier where guests disembark to retire for the night... or to enjoy Bangkok’s vibrant nightlife. With impressive dining options and a lively atmosphere, River Star Princess Dinner Cruise is an affordable and pleasing river cruise experience.
