Q Bar Bangkok
Great DJs and dancing on Sukhumvit Soi 110
Q Bar is permanently closed
Funky, fashionable and unwaveringly popular, Q Bar in Bangkok has been spinning quality dance and party music to the city’s socialite crowd for over ten years. This bar-slash-club is more exclusive than most other clubs in its vicinity, and patrons really make an effort and dress to impress. Q Bar is not the kind of place you would stumble on as it’s located quite a distance down Sukhumvit Soi 11 (one of the main party hotspots in Bangkok), and that’s just the way the management like it. The closest BTS station is Nana, as Soi 11 is at the base of the sky train steps – from there you can walk or take a taxi. From Sukhumvit Road, follow Soi 11, past the spaceship-looking frame of Bed Supperclub, until the road turns left. Q Bar Bangkok is 15 metres down on your right.Read More

With its corner location opposite Le Fenix Hotel, there is only one narrow door in or out and it’s guarded by a group of heavyset bouncers whose job it is to keep the ‘unsuitables’ out. It’s well known that Q Bar has been visited by a range of Hollywood celebrities and it’s a good bet that if there is a feature film being produced in Bangkok, the stars will end up here at least once.
The décor in Q Bar, both inside and out, is quite special. The outdoor-but-undercover bar area is bright and spacious with a zebra and leopard print motif, and has plenty of tables and seating designed so you won’t have to shout to be heard and, owing to its intimate size, is rather easy to get chatting to the table next to you.
The club section is set over two floors and has lots of private nooks skirting the dance floor, with ornate seating arrangements designed for groups to claim their space for the night; although, to reserve a sofa for the night you must buy a top-shelf bottle. This is the common approach to a night out for Thai people, but if you prefer not to be anchored to one spot or if you’re lacking a suitable entourage then you can always do the Western thing and buy drinks from the bar. It’s worth noting that drinks are on the pricey side: a bottle with mixers will set you back at least 5,000baht, whereas single drinks cost around 300baht each.
The music policy depends on the night and the DJ, but it is usually a mix of house or hip hop – anything on the lighter, vocal side of things to get people on their feet. It’s not the kind of club for tearing up the dance floor with bass-heavy beats; it’s more refined than that, but still people get down to the music, usually with a drink in hand. The dance floor in Q Bar, although small, is one of the friendliest in the city and it’s really easy to get chatting as you shake your booty. Some clubs like to keep their dance floor dark, but this is not true of Q Bar, where it’s bright enough to see all the beautiful people you are rubbing shoulders with – some of whom make a living out of it.
Q Bar opens at 21:00 and on weekends it can be a good idea to get there soon after to get your pick of the seats, but in the midweek the place doesn’t start rocking until closer to midnight. In keeping with the exclusive theme there is a weekend cover charge of 600baht, which includes two free drinks, but on weekdays entrance is free. Wednesday and Sunday are ladies nights which mean free entry and two free drinks for the fairer sex. If you are thinking of buying a bottle, inform the girl when you enter as it allows four people free entry.
The dress policy at Q Bar forbids open-faced shoes and sleevless T-shirts, and if you want to fit in to the style and ambience of this chic club you should definitely think about ironing your shirt and polishing your shoes. The clientele is generally more mature than what you will find in other clubs in Bangkok, which is a direct result of their more selective door policy and higher than average prices. Nevertheless, if you make the grade, Q Bar is one of the friendliest clubs in the city frequented by a good looking crowd of social trendsetters.
