Neilson Hays Library Bangkok

Library in Sathorn

Neilson Hays Library Bangkok is a cultural hub in Silom and a great place to unplug from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. There are two separate galleries displaying different types of art. Don’t worry, they also have a substantial number of books in English! The Neilson Hays Library is a 15-minute walk or a five-minute cab ride from both the Surasak and Chong Nonsi BTS Skytrain Stations.

Originally founded in 1869, the Neilson Hays Library boasts an impressive 20,000 volumes. This makes it a popular destination amongst Bangkok’s resident expat community. As you are walking down Surawong Road, you cannot miss this breathtaking, colonial-style building. Enjoy a coffee or tea and simultaneously browse the art gallery in their low-key café. While the library is open to the public, you can only check out books if you are a member. They host “story time” in English every Saturday morning, making it a perfect pit stop for families with young children. Visit the Neilson Hayes Library’s website for upcoming events, including concerts, lectures, and Thai holiday celebrations.
