Serving a fusion of Californian and Asian dishes, Leapfrog is a stylish and chilled-out restaurant, whether you are looking for tapas and cocktails or an intimate three course meal with wine. Sitting on the eighth floor of the Galleria 10 Hotel, it is pleasantly surprising to find such an unusual and funky rooftop restaurant a few floors above quiet Sukhumvit Soi 10.
The location is ideal too, only a short walk from the BTS at Nana or Asoke, and the MRT at Sukhumvit. Walk five minutes along Sukhumvit Soi 10 and you will find Galleria 10 Hotel on the left hand side. The restaurant is open from 16:00 until 01:00, with a resident DJ to entertain you from 22:00.

The first thing you notice when you enter Leapfrog is the skyline. Floor to ceiling windows line three sides of the dining room, Bangkok’s skyscrapers making an unusual backdrop to the bottles on the bar shelves. There is no need to stand on ceremony here, the staff are friendly and the wooden dining tables are paired with some comfortable day beds. In keeping with the menu, Leapfrog has a relaxed Californian feel, and if it wasn’t for the impressive view of Bangkok you could easily be on America’s west coast. With tables surrounding the pool and some cushion-covered alcoves, it is easy to find a quiet spot to enjoy the view whether you come with a small group or for a romantic evening for two.
There is no better way to start an evening at Leapfrog that with one of their classic cocktails. These come in three sizes: L (250 baht), XL (390 baht) and XXL (690 baht). The largest is a goldfish bowl sized, drink, ideal for sharing. We enjoyed our refreshing mango mojito, with added chunks of fresh mango. Other recommendations include flirtini (passion fruit martini) and honey bunny, a vodka based cocktail with mixed berries and parfait d’amour to give it a distinctive purple hue. Our cocktails went well with the tapas tree, a selection of five tapas (650 baht). With so many different options it can be hard to pick, with dishes ranging from chicken drumsticks to the more unusual baby octopus marinated in a sweet and spicy Asian sauce. To complete our set we also had mini calzones, the puff pastry bites filled with a rich tomato ratatouille, paprika shrimp skewers and salmon bites with a spicy dip.
To accompany our main meal we made the most of Leapfrog’s selection of wines by the glass, starting at 179 baht, and imported beers from Germany, Mexico, Ireland and Belgium coming in at 250 baht. An entrée of seared tuna salad was light but flavoursome; the generous slices of tuna are spiced with pepper, with handfuls of olives and avocado to add texture and flavour. My generous portion of lamb shank - served with crunchy vegetables and a scoop of mash - made me wonder how I would ever fit dessert in, but I somehow managed a portion of the fluffy cheesecake with fresh berries. The ambience of Leapfrog restaurant and bar make it worth the small detour along Soi 10, somewhere yet to be discovered by the Sukhumvit crowds.
