Although the exterior shows its age, once you are inside it is immediately obvious that the interior of this 565-room hotel has been modernized. The entrance hall has a calming mirrored water feature that cleverly negates the outside traffic noise. The pale wood and brightly striped carpets throughout the building help make the large space feel more intimate. Landscaped gardens have a tropical island feel, with a traditional style Thai restaurant and swimming pool amongst the palm trees.
Despite its out-of-town location Centara Grand isn’t inaccessible. It is less than ten minutes walk to an MRT station that can take you to central Bangkok in 20 minutes and connects to the BTS. If you need easy access to the airports it is only ten minutes by taxi to Don Muang and a half-hour drive to Suvarnabhumi.
Hotel Highlight - Business Facilities
This hotel is perfect for those visiting on business. The meeting facilities are unrivalled, with a series of dedicated rooms on the mezzanine floor. Whether it’s a small gathering of half a dozen people or a function for 4,500 the dedicated team is happy to help. A handy covered walkway takes you straight to Bangkok Convention Centre Hall.
Commitment to business guests is clear in the design and every room has a stylish dedicated workspace. The smart business centre offers use of both Macs and PCs, secretarial service and top-of-the-range AV equipment. Private dining is available and the Blue Sky restaurant on the top floor has three rooms that are perfect for impressing important clients.
Hotel Highlight - the Shopping Mall
What it loses in distance from the city centre it makes up for by being next door to Bangkok’s famous Chatuchak Weekend Market. Add to this the direct walkway to Central Plaza Ladprao shopping mall and the proximity of Union Mall and even the fussiest shopper will be satisfied.
Central Plaza Ladprao gives you the best of Bangkok malls; a selection of around 350 shops with International and Thai brands including Uniqlo, XXI Forever, Topshop, Lacoste and Addidas. Union Mall is ideal for bargain hunters with over 300 small market-style stalls selling clothing and accessories.
You can’t be a shopaholic and visit Bangkok without at least a few hours dedicated to exploring Chatuchak Market. Open from around 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday it offers 35 acres of stalls selling everything; including fighting fish and traditional Thai triangle ‘mon’ pillows.
With great views over either the city or Chatuchak Park; all 565 rooms include rain shower, LCD television with international satellite TV channels and twin or king-size beds as standard. The comfortably sized 35sqm Deluxe Rooms are decorated in muted colours with a dash of orange. A glass wall separates the bedroom from the bathroom, with a blind to preserve modesty.
Club Deluxe and the Club Deluxe Suites provide access to the Executive lounge on the 24th Floor serving complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks in a more private setting. Premium Deluxe Suites, Studio Suites and Executive Suites offer a separate living space as well.
