Comprising four unique floors, Grease Nightclub in Bangkok is an all inclusive venue that offers something for everyone – from hardcore clubbers to rooftop stargazers. Specifically the club has a restaurant, dance venue, live music bar and a tree-lined rooftop lounge. Grease Nightclub is located on Sukhumvit Soi 49, in the Piman 49 Complex (a high end collection of shops and restaurants) opposite Samitivej Hospital. The nearest BTS station is Thong Lor but a taxi or motorbike is needed from there.
The ‘shophouse’ dimensions of Grease Nightclub might sound strange, but the space has been used perfectly, with each floor delivering a totally different experience. On the ground floor is the restaurant, irreverently called Any Winehouse, serving an informal menu of Mediterranean and Thai fusion cuisine. Up one level is LSD, the main nightclub in Grease – with a low ceiling and swathes of neon it is one of the most spectacular dance floors in Bangkok, playing an eclectic range of dance music, but usually veering towards drum’n’bass and dupstep. The New York loft style live music venue Case 49 is on the third floor and on the rooftop you will find EYWA, an open air shisha bar with a ‘shoes off’ policy, beanbags and hanging basket chairs.
Dinner at Grease Nightclub
The selection of wines and cocktails at Grease is outstanding and there’s no better way to try them than over dinner. The restaurant at Grease serves an excellent and competitively priced menu of European favourites delivered with signature Thai twists. Start off with some appetisers such as the homemade potato chips fried with onion and chilli, thick cut pieces of tuna tartar mixed with mango and lemongrass, and a rocket salad with sliced parmesan and tomato... and enjoy over a glass of something boozy.
Cocktails start from 260 baht for classics like the excellent long island ice tea (guaranteed party starter!) and mojito. There is also a Grease Nightclub signature range costing 340 baht. It contains a tequila based concoction Kiss from Rose, with sweet lemon and rose flavours that are perfectly balanced with the liquor. The wine menu is perhaps even more impressive with French, Italian and American labels very much in the ascendancy. This is without doubt the finest wine menu for any club in Bangkok. For a main, choose salmon steak with wasabi white wine (490 baht), beef tenderloin (690 baht), pan seared snowfish with lemon and caper sauce (590 baht) or seafood pasta (320 baht). The spaghetti tom yum is delightful with three massive, tender tiger prawns and dry roasted chilli peppers (295 baht). There is also a bar snacks menu of chicken wings and calamari for around 200 baht each.
Party at Grease Nightclub
To start the night or if you are just in the mood to chill, we recommend heading up to the top floor, for a shoes off rooftop experience on the fake grass. EYWA shisha bar is the perfect place to stretch out on beanbags, sink a few drinks and enjoy the illusion of a night breeze created by cleverly hidden ceiling fans. Move down one floor to Case 49, where you can enjoy live music from up and coming bands or a DJ set of downtempo tunes. The walls have been turned into an art gallery, with an ever changing selection of Thai contemporary art displayed on the whitewashed walls. When you feel ready to really let loose, head down to the futuristic dance area of Grease Nightclub Bangkok. Covered in dazzling neon and so far ahead of its time, the dance floor of LSD resembles the electric neon womb of a robot baby. The low ceilings, mirrors and kick ass stereo create an intense mood that might be too much for some but allows party people to really lose it on the dance floor.
