Game Over Bangkok combines three of the finest things in life - beers, burgers and computer games - to create one of the most original new hangouts in Thonglor. Located on the ground floor of Liberty Plaza, the spacious 400-square-metre venue promises a whole host of games for members and non-members, including three different consoles, PC stations, a pool table, beer pong, and board games.
Defining Game Over is a bit tricky, probably because we’ve never seen anything like it before in Bangkok. They describe themselves as an ‘electronic playground’, although there’s plenty here to draw in the technophobes too, with an impressive lineup of craft beers, freshly made coffee and handmade burgers courtesy of the now-famous burger truck guy Daniel Thaiger.

It all sounds amazing, and it is… but at a cost. Consoles and PC games require membership and then additional fees; one-day pass cost 500 baht, whilst if you’re sticking around for longer, monthly rates start at a pretty reasonable 1,200 baht. On top of that, it costs 350 baht per hour to play their Playstation 4/X Box 360/Wii-U on their massive flat screen, and you can book your time slot in advance on their website. Top titles include Fifa 14, Metal Gear Solid, Need for Speed and Dead Rising 4. Game Over Bangkok also has piles of classic and new board games, some of which are free, others carry a small charge of 150 baht.
Décor here finds a nice balance between coolness and geekiness, creating an underground, revamped warehouse kind of vibe. Think exposed air vents, polished concrete floors, mismatching furniture set around wooden desks, not to mention heaps of Instagram-candy such as old typewriters hanging from the exposed brick work, a café-racer bike at the entrance and graffitied walls.
Food at Game Over Bangkok is all about the burgers. They’ve teamed up with celebrity burger-ologist Daniel Thaiger – famous for his truck on Sukhumvit 38 – to bring a selection of his signature creations to Thonglor, including varieties with beef, lamb and salmon (around 200 baht). Considering that this is a games cafe, the drinks menu goes way beyond any expectation too, with over a dozen different beers and craft ales, alongside wine, spirits, soft drinks, coffee and tea.
Find Game Over Bangkok on the ground floor of Liberty Plaza at the top of Thonglor (Sukumvit Soi 55). They’re open from 11:00 until 02:00 in the morning meaning die-hard gamers can stretch out that 500-baht-a-day membership for a mammoth 15-hour session if they really want.
