Desi Beats Bangkok is one of the latest (and highest) additions to the Opus Building on Thonglor Soi 10, which is already home to favourite hi-so hangouts like Bombay Blues on the third floor and Glam the second.
Following in line with the rest of the bars downstairs, shisha pipes are ordered at pretty much every table, while the décor takes on a Moroccan/Bollywood vibe with a funky pastel colour scheme and cushioned floor-seating inside. There’s also a breezy roof terrace outside with further seating options and city views.

Shisha is so popular here that even the tables have been ergonomically designed to fit in the hefty pipes, with holes cut into the center of each one. Available flavours include apple, peach, orange, melon and watermelon, costing around 600-700 baht a pop. On the drinks front, bottles of Singha and San Miguel Light start at 150 baht, and there’s also local draft options on tap. The lengthy menu also has a list of wines, cocktails, shots and bottles of vodka and whiskey.
Food at Desi Beats Bangkok is more of an afterthought – most of the crowd are here for the views, shisha and lively house beats, which all helps the venue take on more of a club vibe. That said, there is a kitchen here, and most of the dishes following the Indian theme: think kebabs, curries and naan bread. There’s also some more western tastes like fish and chips (250 baht), grilled German sausages (220 baht) and seafood pasta (250 baht).
The bubbling nightlife scene in Thonglor is about the most happening you’ll find anywhere in Bangkok at the moment, with Thonglor Soi 10 at the center of it all. The surrounding area is packed full of clubs and its more chilled-out spots like Desi Beats that prove particularly popular as pre-party hangouts for university students, local professionals and expats to get their drink – and smoke – on.
Find Desi Beat Bangkok by heading up Sukhumvit Soi 55 and then turn right onto Thonlor Soi 10. The flamboyant Opus Building is almost immediately on the left hand side – take the elevator up to the eighth floor to arrive. Word of warning: weekend evenings sees this place get pretty packed – and you do need a table, so arrive early or book in advance.
