Cloud 47 Rooftop Bar
The Largest Rooftop Bar in Bangkok0
Cloud 47 is the latest addition to Bangkok's Amazing Rooftop Race. Located at the top of the United Center office tower, Cloud 47 is quite different from any other rooftop you might have heard of or visited before. Usually it's all posh and glitzy, with drink price list as high as the building and waitresses straight out of the movie makeup room, but here prices are surprisingly friendly, atmosphere is casual and a beer costs no more than 160 baht. The location right in the centre of popular Silom Road, just past the famous Patpong night market and evening entertainment zone, is also quite convenient… if you know where to look!
The tower entrance is located on Silom Road itself but despite its 47 floors, the tower is slightly hidden in the back, making it is hard to spot if you are not familiar with the area. Just keep your eyes up and you will spot their red logo 'United Center' on a white wall. Park somewhere in the building (no free parking though) and walk to the back building that looks exactly like what it is: an office tower.Read More

As I arrived, I was a bit confused about what to do and where to go. No signboard nor direction anywhere, just a serious looking security guard behind a counter. The guard pointed at a young girl standing alone next to typical access office gates; I didn't notice her at first. I walked toward her and told her and asked for “Cloud 47”. She then did something quite surprising for a rooftop bar: she stamped my wrist with a green rubber stamp, just like they do in clubs and discos!
When the elevator doors opened on the 47th floor I had a bit of a surprise: the size of this rooftop was really massive, as large as a small soccer field (everything seems to be measured in soccer fields these days) and presents an impressive 180˙ panoramic view of downtown Bangkok. Some might say that usually rooftop bars should be at the very top of a building – and this one does have a ceiling – but it's 3 storeys high, which allows Cloud 47 to still operate in the rain.
The views are spectacular in all directions… On the left, the Chao Phraya River is a bit far but still visible and, standing just next to United Center, the gigantic glass buildings of Sathorn Road offer a view of Bangkok that could compete with any big cityscape. On the other side is the beautiful Lumpini Park and the famous shopping district of Siam. In all directions avenues are lit with neon signs and the streaming taillights of cars, making a great photo opportunity for photographers of all levels.
Cloud 47 is divided into two areas: the largest one is quite simple with and a modest circular bar, plenty of tables and seats surrounding a stage where a band performs from 20:00 to 24:00.
The other side of the rooftop appears more sophisticated with an air-conditioned glass wine cellar named 'Uncorked' sheltering a two storey tower used as a fine wines store. Uncorked has an impressive list of 500 wine labels to choose from.
The drink list is quite classic with a decent cocktail list at very affordable prices, but you can order wines from their wine cellar. Even better, Cloud 47 serves great Thai snacks and Thai foods at fair prices, making this rooftop a very good venue for groups of friends who want to party with some exceptional views but without that heart attack feeling when the bill arrives.
