Being a hotel restaurant, Bodega is busy at dinner but fairly quiet at lunch when most guests are out exploring the many faces of Bangkok. Either way, the chef uses high quality ingredients and prepares dishes on the softer side of Thai cuisine, meaning flavours have been fine tuned with the typical tourist palate in mind. For an appetiser, we recommend the simple but classic crispy vegetable spring rolls (160 baht). The presentation is excellent, resting on a bed of brittle, deep fried rice noodles. The rolls are gently browned and crackle when bit. The pad Thai (280 baht) is another recommendation, with two huge, soft river shrimp stealing the show. Pleasingly, the legs have been removed and shell sliced in two so there is no messing around to get at the tender flesh. Again presentation is all important and the soft noodles have been placed in a sort of egg nest.
For meat lovers the rib eye steak is a delicious offering, cooked to order with a rich red wine sauce and seasonal vegetables (600 baht). This is a strictly European dish for those who have been overdosing on chilli. Be sure to save room for dessert because at Bodega their signature banana lime gelatine mixed berry (280 baht) is a mix of fresh kiwi, mango, banana and berries that is as refreshing as it is tasty – like a cool, fresh breeze on a midsummer morning. They also stock Movenpick ice creams.
A varied menu at reasonable prices ensures Bodega Restaurant is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner in the Ploenchit or Chit Lom area.
