Anantara Spa in Bangkok is located in the charming five-star Anantara Riverside Hotel and Spa, and is the finest example of a tropical escape where guests can be pampered with signature treatments. Completely secluded from the rest of the resort and set in a luscious garden, guests follow a sandy path to reach the small villa which houses Anantara Spa – it really helps to separate you from the world outside and turns the attention squarely on you.
Decorated with warm wood furnishings and pale cream, Anantara Spa has a timeless charm, with touches of antiquity in the artwork and seating. Upon arrival we receive a drink of either ginger or roselle tea and a cold face-towel infused with lavender. At this stage we are asked a series of questions about any health issues or any areas we would like the treatment to focus on, meaning a spa treatment at Anantara is truly personalised.

My partner and I chose the 60 minute Anantara Signature Massage (3,400 baht) and were led along teak floorboards to a palatial room with couples’ massage beds, a stone bath with rose petals sprinkled inside and a private garden with a waterfall and Traditional Thai pavilion, or sala.
After showering in the couples’ high-pressure shower it was time to change into the provided underwear and await our therapists. When you are ready you are asked to bang a small gong and right on cue, the therapists enter and lead us to have our feet cleaned in a bowl of warm water strewn with petals. Our feet are scrubbed with sea salt and then soaked in honey to exfoliate and smooth. Finally, a spray of peppermint is used to invigorate.
The Anantara Signature Massage is softer than a traditional Thai massage, mixing slow kneading of muscles while working massage oil deep into the skin. Meridian Line massage oil is exclusive to Anantara Spa in Thailand, containing rosewood, sandalwood, geranium and clary sage, it leaves the skin feeling plumped and hydrated without any excess oil. The Signature Massage starts with the legs and arms, before moving onto the stomach and chest. The stomach massage is something unique at Anantara Spa, aiding digestion and helping to really free the body of toxins. The massage finishes with a soothing head massage. The massage left us both feeling light enough to float back to town and yet gently charged with the sensation of our blood flowing freely.
Anantara Spa has a prestigious reputation in Thailand and their range of treatments is sure to relax and revive, with premium spa products and a blissful retreat inside a tropical garden. To reach Anantara Riverside Resort and Spa you can take a taxi, although we recommend taking the complimentary shuttle boat from in front of Saphan Taksin BTS Station. The shuttle boat leaves every 30 minutes.
