Love it or loathe it, Khao San Road knows how to party. This is Bangkok’s go-to strip for a night of downing booze-filled buckets, meeting new backpacking buddies, munching on fried insects, drunkenly getting that lizard tattoo you’ve always wanted, and participating in general debauchery that would be frowned upon pretty much anywhere else in the Thai capital, if not Asia.
The kilometre stretch is lined with bars, restaurants and guesthouses, so finding a fun place to sink a few cheap drinks isn’t exactly difficult.
However, when it comes to late-night dance clubs on Khao San, the choice isn’t as big. We’ve found 5 of the best for you to take your pick.
- Ayutthaya Ancient Capital Tour with River Cruise
- Banyan Tree's Apsara Dinner Cruise
- Bridge on the River Kwai & Historic Railway Tour
- Thonburi Klongs & Grand Palace Morning Excursion
- Floating Markets Cycling & Boat Tour
- Private Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha & Reclining Buddha Morning Tour
- Siam Niramit Dinner Show
- Calypso Bangkok Cabaret Show
- Safari World & Marine Park Full-Day Tour With Buffet Lunch
- Muay Thai Live Performance
Despite being a contender for the world’s least originally-named nightclub, ‘The Club’ has been around for as long as we can remember, and the big dancefloor still gets packed most nights of the week. The neon sign is difficult to miss – especially now they have promoters standing outside; just follow the narrow hallway inside to unveil a surprisingly huge space with high ceilings, a central DJ booth, a podium and seating towards the back. Expect DJs to warm the crowd up with more underground house and techno, before throwing in a few EDM anthems and dance remixes as the party really gets going after midnight. Entrance is free or if they do charge, it’s normally about 200 baht and that gets you a free drink. Read More...

Long gone are the days that Khao San was reserved only for sunburnt foreigners dressed in their best singles and flip flops. In fact, if you venture inside Brick Bar you’ll actually be well outnumbered by the locals (mostly young university students), who flock to this long-running live music institution every night. The real highlights here are the live bands, who play catchy Thai indie, ska, reggae and pop covers. To really make the most of your night, arrive early and grab a table downstairs in front of the stage – otherwise you might be ushered upstairs to a table tucked away in a dark corner… not so much fun. Find Brick Bar inside Buddy Lodge near the top of Khao San. Read More...

Only opened at the end of 2015, Superflow is billed as the first ever day and night club on Khao San. Obviously if you’re coming early for drinks you can expect a more subdued atmosphere; it’s closer to midnight when the party really gets started. Superflow takes on a funky beach theme, with real sand, sun loungers, palm trees and bamboo hut-style bars dotted around the enormous venue. House music is pumped out from the central DJ booth, and along with cheap cocktail buckets (300 baht) and skimpily-dressed tourists, there’s a real beach party vibe in force – hence their Koh Phangan-inspired ‘full moon’ parties on the weekend. Taking over the building which used to be the now defunct Gazebo Club, this is a good option if you want your whole night wrapped up in one neat package, with a restaurant, rooftop bar and a nightclub spread over three floors. Outside is the best place to eat, with a house band keeping the atmosphere lively, while the main club room only starts pumping out the EDM, hip-hop and house later on. Find Bank Club just off Khao San on Chakpong Road, opposite Lucky House Hotel. As The Bank is a relative newcomer, it’s probably best to keep up-to-date with their events via their Facebook (link below).

Despite being around for years, Lava hasn’t exactly redefined Khao San’s nightlife scene, although it is generally a safe bet for tourists looking to keep on dancing after all the street-side bars have stopped serving. Its relatively intimate size makes it seem busy with only 50 people inside, whereas you next best option – The Club – needs a few hundred to properly pack it out. Expect old and new dance and hip-hop music, drinks around 250 baht and a sexy dark red colour scheme that really ‘sets the mood’. Top tip: don’t bother rocking up until after midnight.
