Thonglor has long been recognised as Bangkok’s coolest neighbourhood, with enough swanky restaurants, late-night cafes, and trendy bars to keep all your after-dark adventures firmly fixated around Sukhumvit Soi 55.
But keeping up with Thonglor’s constantly developing nightlife scene is no easy task; as soon as a cool new venue has completed its numerous ‘soft opening’ parties, there’ll probably be another bar around the corner stealing the limelight the very next week.
So, to keep you up-to-date, we’ve pulled together a list of our current go-to bars in Thonglor, including some old favourites and a few newer hangouts.

The inspiration for Iron Fairies actually started as a fairytale book which designer and previous owner, Ashley Sutton, wrote himself, later opening a bar of the same name. Since then he has achieved local fame with several other standout nightlife venues such as Maggie Choos, Mrs. Jones’ Orphanage and Sing Sing Theatre. This prominent Thonglor spot is dark and broody, with wrought iron staircases, exposed pipes and dilapidated timber and brick. The nightly live jazz/blues performances can be some of the best around, best enjoyed alongside a few of their signature cocktails (although they aren’t cheap). Read More...

Bronx Liquid Parlour serves some of the most creative cocktails in Bangkok. Honestly, we would put some of these incredible drinks up against the best of New York or London! The man behind the bar is the well-travelled Hideyuki Saito, formerly of Vogue Lounge in Sathorn, who has created a menu of signature concoctions that are getting serious praise from everyone who samples them.
The interior of bare brick and simple tables is modern, plain, and striking for its lack of wackiness. It is very different to many of the other cocktail bars in Bangkok which have an interesting design but sometimes fail to deliver on the reason you’re there: the drinks! Read More...

The guys behind this gentlemen’s club-style whiskey bar seem achieve whole new realms of coolness without even trying, and there’s a reason why. Owner Chavin Nantaterm previously worked alongside Bangkok’s most in-demand ‘barchitect’, Ashley Sutton, and he’s also responsible for the equally smart Black Amber Barber Shop across the road. Items from Nantaterm’s personal antique collection are placed throughout the space, including some gorgeous leather armchairs tucked away in a corner at the back, a grand piano, and an entire ostrich skeleton waiting to greet you upon arrival in the lobby. Bangkok’s whiskey drinkers should also take note; there’s a vast selection of single malts stacked behind the dimly-lit bar, plus a few rare bottles of rum, gin and absinth. Read More...

Beers, burgers and computer games; three of the finest things in life all combined under one roof to create one of Thonglor’s most exciting new openings of 2015. This is a gamer cafe with a difference, attracting everybody from RPG-addicted techies to hip local yuppies and expats. There are various different membership options but you can just rock up to have a drink and ‘pay-as-you-play’. There’s a couple of indoor computer stations, as well as a PlayStation, Xbox, pool and foosball tables and a decent selection of board games that can be played for free. Come hungry to try one of Daniel Thaiger’s signature burgers (200-300 baht) and wash it down with an imported craft ale available by the bottle. Read More...

A rooftop bar without any real views, Roof Hideaway still draws in the crowds with its creative cocktail menu (created by Diageo Reserve World Class Thailand finals in 2014 winner Neung Ronnaporn), interesting Thai fusion dishes and a nightly band playing soft rock and acoustic covers. Although located above the banging Muse Nightclub below, this feels like more of a laidback secret garden, with plenty of greenery fitting in nicely with the predominantly wooden furnishings. A great place to start your night out on the happening Thonglor Soi 10, with the option to move downstairs to the club room or pick another dance spot nearby. Read More...

This spot on Thonglor 13 is more of nightlife complex rather than a single bar. Brew, Clouds, Fat’r Gut’z and Belon Raw Bar are the most prominent names, although if you grab a table in the outside courtyard you can just get multiple orders sent over from each place. And that’s why Seen Space is so popular – the enormous variety of choice, both in terms of food and drink. Expect to wait for a table after 21:00 most nights as Thonglor’s young and glamourous descend upon Seenspace for pre-club drinks and shisha. Read More...

Thanks to its multiple floors, an outside garden and an easy-to-reach location right on Sukhumvit 55, Bad Motel is always going to be a safe bet for drinks in Thonglor. The vibrant main bar is downstairs, which takes on a deliberately rough and ready interior design scheme. For a more cosy setting, head outside to the intimate courtyard garden or climb upstairs to the artsy second and third floors. Despite the hip crowd, Bad Motel isn’t as pricey as other nearby bars with beers just over 100 baht, cocktails around 200 baht and Thai dishes around 150 baht. Read More...

Hipster-favourite Studio Lam stands up against the commercialization of Bangkok’s nightlife scene in pretty much every way possible; think old school turntables instead of CDJs, herb-infused moonshine instead of Grey Goose, and niche World Music (with a focus on vintage Thai folk music) replacing Sukhumvit’s usual EDM/house soundtrack.
Inevitably, the clientele is made up of artsy students, in-the-know farang and a few hip Gen-Xs reliving their youth. Seating is sparse, although there are some outside benches for the crowd to spill onto when things get busy late on the weekend. The DJs or live band here are so eclectic you could get anything from African percussion to Indian vocal choirs, so do check the lineup via Facebook in advance.

Mellow Restaurant & Bar
Sure, Mellow Restaurant & Bar might not exactly be reinventing the wheel when it comes to nightlife in Thonglor, but what they do they do well. The bright sunlight flooding in through the huge framed creates a pleasant setting for lunch, while the soft lighting, lavish leather sofas and gentle house music soundtrack help Mellow to live up to its name after-dark. The long food menu spans from pub finger food like chicken wings and fries to more substantial mains like pastas, steak and seafood, and you can expect to pay 150-800 baht per dish. Cocktails can be hit and miss here, but arrive for their buy-one-get-one-free happy hour and you won’t complaining.+66(0)2 382 0065
