Evason Hua Hin Resort Review
Hua Hin Hotel Reviews
A quick browse through the information guide yields quotes that demonstrate why Evason Hua Hin Resort is an uncommon five-star resort: Equipment is available for you to express your artistic talent. Please feel comfortable to dress as you wish. A toy box is available upon request... From the pillow menu and DVD library to the participation in a broad range of social and environmental programs, Evason’s new take on the relaxation business is refreshing. And it works.
Technically, the Evason Hua Hin Resort isn’t in Hua Hin. From Thailand’s first beach town, it’s a scenic 30-minute drive through palm groves and temple-crowned hills to the resort’s beachfront location in Pranburi. Rough-hewn wooden signs, incongruous among a horde of visually-loud advertisements, point you to ‘The Evasons’ – and the plural form is no spelling blunder. The Evason Hua Hin Resort borders Evason Hideaway; they’re so close, in fact, that it’s a challenge to discern where one stops and the other begins.
A vehicle path runs between the resort and the sea, but to call it a road would be a gross exaggeration. It’s little more than a dirt trail and its bumpy surface deters regular traffic; the occasional cars and motorbikes move slowly. Pedestrians and bicycles are far more common than engines.
There’s another reason the waterfront lane is generally peaceful: the Evason Hua Hin Resort is quite remote. Apart from the area’s resorts and the occasional restaurant, massage hut or bar-on-wheels, there’s very little nearby. And that’s what Evason is all about – escape, serenity, and quietude.
Accommodation at the Evason Hua Hin Resort consists of 145 luxurious rooms in three floor plans (Evason Room, Evason Studio, and Evason Romantic Beachfront Studio), as well as 40 Evason Pool Villas for those special occasions. Every living space is bright and cheerful thanks to the light-coloured walls, hefty furniture crafted from wood that hasn’t been processed beyond recognition, and large sliding glass doors that lead to balconies. Working tables, daybeds, mini-bars, personal safes, and tea- and coffee-making facilities are standard throughout.
The Evason Studios are more than a third larger than the 34-square metre Evason Rooms, and well worth the upgrade. Not only do you get more room to move inside, the increased outdoor area – with a dining table and mosquito-net-enclosed daybed – becomes a second living space.
The uncluttered design of the bathrooms lets the highlights ¬– like copper vessel sinks, volcano-shaped garbage cans, and frosted windows that slide open and allow bathers to watch television or carry on a conversation – shine. All have a bathtub and shower, though the two are combined in Evason Rooms and Evason Studios. A basic selection of fragrant cleansing products occupies a very small portion of the counter, but don’t be fooled – just about anything you might have forgotten to pack (razor kit, toothbrush, and even bath toys), is complimentary. All you have to do is ask.
Step up to an Evason Romantic Beachfront Studio and you still get a daybed on the balcony, but enjoy even more legroom and peekaboo sea views. In the bathroom, you’ll find twin vanities and a shower, but no bathtub; to fully realize the romantic concept, it’s been moved into the bedroom.
Being able to rub-a-dub-dub on the wrong side of the bathroom wall is definitely unique. But the Evason Pool Villas raise the bar even higher: their tubs are surrounded by lotus ponds and blue sky (depending on weather conditions). Add in the private swimming pool and shaded lounge area, and it’s a good bet that guests here spend a lot of time outdoors.
Children get special treatment at the Evason Hua Hin. Just Kids! offers programs that keeps the little ones happy, and professional staff that let mom and dad relax without worry. It has its own pool (with a waterslide and waterfall-type-thing) and playground outside, while indoors there are toys, puzzles, video games, and more. The activity schedule is vast and varied, but includes educational fun like making Thai crafts, nature walks, and costume parties. If your tykes don’t want to leave at the end of the day, sign them up for the nightly sleepover. Tents under the stars … what could be better?
Eat and drink at The Restaurant, The Beach Restaurant, The Other Restaurant, or The Bar – names that stick in your brain. The quality and selection at each venue is astounding. Whether you crave authentic Thai dishes, favourites from home, or creative combinations of the two, you won’t be disappointed. The breakfast buffet is of special note: fresh ingredients (both Asian and Western) plus proper preparation equals a great start to the day.
The Evason operates a shuttle to the centre of Hua Hin; taxies are readily available outside the resort. In-room high-speed Internet is provided for a fee, wireless access is complimentary in certain public areas. Room service operates 24 hours a day.
