Cha-Am Nightlife

What to Do at Night in Cha-Am

While Cha-Am is no Pattaya, (and most will agree that this is a good thing) you can still have some fun here during the evenings. Most of the nightlife here is divided between the Bus Soi, Narathip Road and the beachfront and is geared towards those who are happy sitting back and drinking beer while listening to music and socialising with the locals.

Cha-Am, it must be noted, has a very tight community which is apparent when you step out for a drink there. Fortunately residents are very welcoming and eager to strike up a conversation.

The nightlife is notably more subdued than other, more gregarious parts of Thailand. The Bus Stop Soi is about as Nana Plaza-esque as it gets around here, with a handful of hostess bars that are a lot tamer than what you might get in Bangkok. Keep in mind that Cha-Am is primarily a Thai family and couple destination so if you want to dance on tables till the early hours of the morning this town probably won’t be your cup of tea.

All Nightlife in Cha-Am

Baan Chang

Hidden down a sub soi, this bar attracts a regular crowd who are eager to humiliate themselves at karaoke or to watch the live band. One of the livelier joints in the area, the staff are incredibly friendly, creating the sort of warmth that makes it a place alright to got to alone and make a few friends. Drinks are pretty cheap with big bottles of Singha going for 90 baht and spirits for just 80 baht. You can choose between the outdoor terrace or inside which has more of a disco feel with fairy lights and speckled lasers.

@ Black

The newest bar at the Sheraton Hotel is only open on a Friday and Saturday night. A huge padded black door hides the extent of Blacks extravagance from passers by, once inside you feel as though you have been let into and exclusive club and you would be right. First thing you will notice upon entering is that gigantic cylindrical shaped chandelier that dominates the room combined with and the gleaming disco pillars and beds hidden into corners. Reminiscent of studio 54, Andy Warhol would have been right at home in here.

Free Time Bar

As the name would suggest this bar is a good place to come and enjoy a few drinks with friends during your free time, although don’t be fooled into thinking that the drinks are free. Situated at the top end of the soi, furthest away from the sea it is slightly more subdued than its neighbours.

  • Opening Hours: 10:00-01:00
  • Address: 234/56 Soi Bus Station

Rasta Tattoo

An interesting establishment where might want to watch your alcohol consumption if not wanting to permanently brand yourself. The bar doubles as a tattoo parlour so be careful not to get ahead of yourself and leave with the wrong football club insignia tattooed on your arm or elsewhere. The interior is unique to say the least, carrying the usual traits of a Rasta bar mixed with what look like statues from a sci-fi movie, it’s pretty cool.

  • Opening Hours: 09:00-24:00
  • Address: Soi Bus Stop

Red Bar

Slightly out of context when considering the rest of the nightlife around here, the Red Bar looks as though it would be more at home in New York than in this sleepy coastal resort. The concept is ‘chill by day and chill by night’ and if it was any more laid back it would be on the floor. With its cool ultra-modern design, the open ceiling exposing utility-tube lines is all part of the overriding industrial design.

This is a really relaxed bar that is perfect for enjoying a tipple or two. By day the Red Bar serves as a place for light and healthy meals but by night it transforms to an urban-style hangout with an extensive wine list and signature cocktails prepared by the professionally trained bar staff.

Soi Bus Stop

Here is where the highest concentration of bars exists. Situated in Cha-Am south it has a few shops and a row of bars that fill the middle of the street. Its nickname comes from the fact that this is also where you would catch the bus to Bangkok. This place doesn’t really compete with the wildness of say Patpong of Pattaya but it’s about as upbeat as it gets around here. Walking along the street women will call you into their bars whether you accept or not is up to you. An alternative to chatting to the ladies of the night is to venture into one of the pool or sport bars.

The area’s token Irish bar is small but has a friendly ambience and is owned by a Cork native who is happy to sit down with drinkers and share his knowledge of the area.
