From several magnificent temples in Bangkok, the three most unique ones are Wat Suthat, Wat Pho, and Wat Benchamabophit. Wat Suthat is one of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok, famed for its beautiful roofline, huge golden Buddha, excellent murals and giant swing out front.

Wat Suthat was constructed in 1807 after the 27th anniversary of the founding of Bangkok by King Rama I. Phra Sisakayamuni, the main Buddha image, is larger and older than any other bronze cast Buddha image in Thailand. The base of the image is 6.25 metres wide and has a height of 8 metres. The Ordination Hall is said to be among the most beautiful in Thailand and very large in size. The 72 metre high structure is supported by 68 pillars. Phra Putatrilokachet is a Buddha image cast in bronze. It is 5.20 metres in width and 8.45 metres in height. Surrounding the hall are many Chinese statues which were originally used as ballast for ships.

Wat Pho, which features the largest reclining Buddha image in Thailand, and the Chedi of the kings, is Bangkok's oldest and largest temple. Finally there is Wat Benchamabophit, a fine modern Thai temple constructed from white Carrara marble with ornate crossbeams decorated with lacquer and gold.

The Grand Palace is one of the most beautiful samples of an ancient Siamese court. It used to be the residence of the Kings of Bangkok. Here you will see palaces which were used for different occasions: the Funeral Palace, the Reception Palace, the Throne Hall, the Coronation Hall and the Royal Guest House, and Wat Phra Kaew, the beautiful Emerald Buddha Temple. (Note: The entire Grand Palace is closed during special royal ceremonies and during visiting heads of state), while other buildings (such as the Throne Hall and Coronation Hall) are always closed on SAT/SUN and public holidays, during special ceremonies and on Buddhist Holidays.
