About Suvarnabhumi Airport: Situated about 30 km or 40 minutes by car from central Bangkok, the modern Suvarnabhumi International Airport which opened in September 2006 is located in Bangphli, a district of Samut Prakarn province. Nearby attractions are Ancient City, the worlds biggest open-air museum, and Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo. Neighbouring the area is Bangna, a thriving commercial and industrial area and home to the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), as well as the massive Season Square shopping mall. The infamous Pattaya beach resort is also less than 40 minutes away. This area is tipped to undergo some major development over years to come. A brand new road infrastructure connects it to various parts of Bangkok, and in October 2007 a high-speed rail link from the airport will connect with the Skytrain (BTS) and underground (MRT) at Phayathai and Petchaburi stations respectively, offering a fast 15-minute journey to and from the city. The estimated travelling time between the two airports is about 40 45 minutes. (Note: Please consult your travel agent to ensure you are using the right airport.) |
