Bangna Information Guide

Good Airport Location

Only 20 minutes from the Skytrain (BTS) station On Nut, Bangna is considered a prime area of Bangkok due to its rapid commercial and industrial growth over recent years. It has just about everything to please even the most discerning city dwellers and travellers. You can go shopping at one of Asia's largest shopping malls (Seacon Square), or visit the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC).

If you prefer to avoid central Bangkok, Bangna offers an excellent alternative. Bangna provides an easy route to the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estates and the eastern part of Thailand to places like Pattaya and Chonburi. Its location close to the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport is set to stimulate further growth and development.

Bangna: Where to stay

Welcome to Bangna, one of the most rapidly growing suburbs of Bangkok. Rife with riveting attractions like the Ancient City, Erawan Museum, Crocodile Farm and Bang Pu Seaside Resort, Bangna provides an easy route to the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estates and the eastern part of Thailand and beach resorts like Pattaya, Chonburi and Rayong. If you want to stay close to Suvarnabhumi Airport, yet want to be able to reach the city centre and popular attractions and beach resorts in no time, Bangna is your area. (READ MORE)

Bangna: What to see & do

Visit the world-class BITEC (Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre), where international as well as national events and exhibitions are held regularly throughout the year. Among its regularly hosted events include the annual Bangkok International Motor Show, and the Bangkok Furniture Show. During major exhibitions, buses are usually provided for transportation between BITEC and the On Nut Skytrain station. Fancy riding a roller coaster on the top of a shopping mall? Leoland at Central City Bangna features a fun-filled water/theme park. If you can't get enough of the fun, practice your putting skills at the many golf courses, or go to Imperial World Samrong for a dose of 'holiday on ice' featured yourself and your little ones. Imperial World Ice Skating is by far the best and biggest (Olympic-size) rink in Thailand. Seacon Square, too, offers non-stop entertainment with its multiplex cinemas, a bowling complex, a huge 2,500-seat food centre, the world's largest indoor entertainment park, minigolf and a roller blade rink with speed tracks.

For something truly spectacular, the Erawan Museum with its giant three-headed elephant monument is definitely worth heading to. Standing 50 metres tall, the three parts of the elephant contains 'Heaven', 'Earth', and 'Underworld'. An absolute must if you like elephants and antiquities. Another equally interesting museum is the Naval Museum established by the Royal Thai Navy. The Naval Museum houses an impressive collection of ancient and historical items and places related to the Navy. Inside the museum, many displays of historical naval highlights like past battles and the weapons used during that time, can also be found.

Bangna: Shopping

Apart from the usual local markets scattered around the area, Bang Na also boasts a few shopping malls including one of Asia's biggest malls, Seacon Square. Others are Central City Bang Na, Imperial World Samrong, and many 'hypermarkets' like Big C and Tesco Lotus. For shopping promotions, watch out for the events at BITEC (see our What's On).

Bangna: Where to eat

There are plenty of local restaurants dotted around the area, and most of them specializing in Thai or Asian cuisine. Some fine restaurants serving international cuisine can be found at most mid-range to upper-end hotels. If you want a quick, reasonably-priced bite, try food courts and restaurants in shopping malls.

Bangna: Getting around

Bangna is only 20 minutes away from the BTS On Nut station. There are also many taxis, buses, 'song taew' taxis (shared taxis), and mini-vans available around the area. The BTS extension is currently underway with two new stations planned, and expected to be completed in 2009. Sukhumvit Road and the Bangna-Trad Highway are two major highways linking Bangkok to Eastern Thailand, as well as the the 55-kilometres Buraphawithi Expressway (toll-way) to the Chonburi Province (Pattaya). The new Suvarnabhumi Airport can be accessed from the south via Bangna-Trad and Buraphawithi as an alternative to the Bangkok-Chonburi highway from the north.

Bangna: Nightlife

Nightlife in Bangna is seemingly hidden away, and tends to cater exclusively to the locals. However, some of the city's most happening party zones like Ekkamai, Thong Lor, and Sukhumvit are only a few stations away from On Nut BTS station. Have a look at the nightlife section of Sukhumvit Road for more options...
